SPEECH ABOUT A LIFE - EVENT
Asked the students to talk about in an event in their life in this way.
First they should divide themselves in teams of five and share their events in life. Then the best/most touching/impressive event is selected and presented in this format.
1. Before the event I used to think ...(Talk about your attitude about a particular person/issue/thing before the event actually happened in your life.)
2. I felt at that time ... (Talk about an emotion you had while the event was happening)
3. Now when I think about it ...(Talk about your thoughts now, after some/long time after the event)
TO BE CONTINUED...

An open letter to all citizens,
Dear friends,
SUBJECT: It is time for us to THINK:
How many of us have ever thought about the inability of our student community to "Think and express themselves and their thoughts in English language" in spite of studying "English" for years and decades ?
Why is it that a child after learning the English alphabet/letters and then words/spellings, is not taught next "How to express their thoughts/feelings/needs in English" in our schools?
Why are we denying this much needed 'life skill" to our school/college students - especially in government, state run schools?
Isn't it one of the fundamental rights of a child to learn to "Think/Express in English"?
Isn't it one of the greatest of all scams ever to have committed and going on even now, thanks to our mysterious silence in this matter?
Even after seventy years of getting freedom, we Indians have not developed a formal system in our educational institutions to empower our students with the crucial skill of "Thinking in English" to make them relevant globally in their respective professions?
And finally, let us make "Think in English" a reality and not just a dream/fantasy for our aspiring millions(girls and boys, men and women) so that their voices are heard and listened all over the world with interest and admiration.
Thinking along with you,
Vinod Kaliyath

A letter to all students/friends who are looking for better jobs and prospects,
Dear students/friends
SUB : IMPORTANCE OF "WHAT YOU THINK IN ENGLISH/ YOUR THOUGHTS IN ENGLISH"
While attending any Job Interview/ Panel Discussion/ Training Session "What you think in English / Your personal thoughts in English on a particular topic/issue/subject/aspect" become important.
You are noticed and measured by what you speak on topics that are related to you for eg. your native place, your school/college/favourite subject, your comments on social/national/international issues.
So it is useful for your success/progress in any job/profession/career that you keep improving and improvising your thoughts/ideas in English especially at job interviews/work places/public forums/media world.
That means once your education at schools/college/institutions get over, don't think of English as a subject; instead think of it as a skill, an art, a science... to think, express, impress and get success and happiness in life.
Thinking of you,
Yours sincerely
Vinod Kaliyath

An open letter to all students/teachers/trainers.
Sir
SUB : Classrooms are to make students think in English.
As a person who has been taking classes in English Communication for the last 15 years, what I have understood clearly is that our education system focuses too much on text as far as teaching English is concerned. Text becomes the center of an English class. Then questions based on the chapters in the text follow and then comes discussing the answers. Now the question is "Where is the learner here? Are their needs, dreams and thoughts taken care of ?".
What we need is classes based on learners' way of thinking, their thinking process and engaging their thoughts. The students have to discover how to think in English and use their thinking skills in finding solutions to situations faced in class. A class should be about the students' thoughts and how to put their thoughts in words and sentences for them to communicate freely and naturally in English. This is what we have to come across in our classrooms - students being empowered to "Think in English".
Thanking you
Yours faithfully
Vinod Kaliyath

Letter to a news reporter...
Want to know of a blog that was born in a classroom? Yes, it was a small classroom that inspired this blog named "Think in English blog".
Now you just have to google "Think in English blog" and the first blog that appears on this topic is the blog at "vkwrldctzn.blogspot.in".
In a usual classroom what is taught and learnt is the text and things related to it. In a "Think in English" classroom, it is the "thought" that gets the most importance.
Students here learn to express their thoughts in English. They are made familiar with a set of forty sentences which form the nucleus. Once these commonly used sentences are introduced in the class, the students form an idea to "Think in English". So it's all about showing a simple and easy way to make the English language easy for thinking and using.
This blog introduces a roadmap for students as well as teachers/trainers to get interested in this new way of learning and teaching English. The vision of this mission undertaken by the blogger Mr. Vinod Kaliyath is to make our fellow citizens and the youth good speakers/communicators, thinkers and teachers/trainers in English language.
Vinod is presently working as a guest faculty at CREST (under the SC/ST department, Govt. of Kerala) helping students to "Think in English". He is also a "Think in English" trainer for Vengeri AUP school and many other such schools and institutes in and around Kozhikode.
With hopes of a great thought...
Vinod Kaliyath
