SEMINAR ON "IMPROVING CONVERSATIONAL SKILLS OF STUDENTS" @ Providence College Campus in 2023

A SHORT SUMMARY OF THE CONTENT

Teachers can act as a catalyst in making a class more interactive and conversation friendly by doing these things:

In the name of discipline, for a long time we have made our classrooms "No talking zones" making the inherent conversational intelligence of our growing children remain stagnant throughout their educational period and then the society keeps lamenting about the fact that why we don't see good speakers, good thinkers, good leaders nowadays who can address the social issues with creative and practical solutions....!

In this seminar the participants discussed about how our classrooms can move forward in the direction of becoming conversation-friendly with the help of these four steps:

1. Making CONVERSATION ZONES in a class.

2. Using BOOKS/VIDEOS/IMAGES as CONVERSATION STARTERS.

3. Encouraging creative questions as CONVERSATION BOOSTERS.

4. Conducting CONVERSATION CONTESTS in the form of job interviews, debates, discussions, skits, role plays, dramas etc.

TIPS FOR SPEAKERS

Ask yourself these five questions:

1. Do I sound OK in that particular language?

2. Do I have a meaningful content?

3. Am I audience-friendly?

4. Do I have an idea about the context of my speech?

5. Do I have an inspiring vision?
