ENGLISH MOVIES

ATTICUS( in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD): To begin with, this case should never have come to trial. The State has not produced on iota of medical evidence to the effect that the crime Tom Robinson is  charged with ever took place. It has relied instead upon the testimony of two witnesses whose evidence has not only been called into serious question on cross examination, but has been flatly contradicted by the defendant. There is circumstantial evidence to indicate that Mayella Ewell was beaten savagely by someone who led almost exclusively with his left...and Tom Robinson now sits before you with the only good hand he possesses... his right hand.
In this country our courts are the great levelers, and in our courts all men are created equal. I’m no idealist to believe firmly in the integrity of our courts and in the jury system. That is no ideal to me...It is a living, working reality. Gentlemen, a court is no better than each man of you sitting before me on this jury. A court is only as sound as the men who make it up. I am confident that you gentlemen will review without passion the evidence you have heard, come to a decision, and restore this defendant to his family. In the name of God, do your duty. In the name of God, believe Tom Robinson.

TITANIC

ROSE :I love you Jack.

JACK :No... don't say your good-byes,Rose. Don't you give up. Don't do it.

ROSE :I'm so cold. JACK :You're going to get out of this... you're going to go on and you're going to make babies and watch them grow and you're going to die an old lady, warm in your bed. Not here. Not this night. Do you understand me? You must do me this honor... promise me you will survive... that you will never give up... no matter what happens... no matter how hopeless... promise me now, and never let go of that promise.

ROSE :I promise.

 JACK :Never let go.

ROSE :I promise. I will never let go, Jack. I'll never let go.

 GLADIATOR

MAXIMUS: Rome... you are better than this.

Look inside yourselves.  I challenge you to find your true voice.  Help the Senate speak for you.  Make them your champion... And dare to think what could be. I give you back the dream.

  GANDHI

GANDHI: Do you find me stubborn?

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible. But in the end they always fall. Think of it – always . . . When you are in doubt that that is God's way, the way the world is meant to be . . .think of that.

I ask you to pray for those who died. For the English soldiers . . .  who were doing what they thought was right.
It it not my law, it is the law of creation. We reap what we sow. Out there in the fields – and in our hearts. Violence sows hatred, and the will to revenge. In them. And in us.

A Role Play : EC Practice with PROBLEMS and SOLUTIONS

No. of participants: 32
First step: Gave the participants small slips and asked them to write in one long sentence(max words:50) without losing the focus, a single problem which they are facing now in their life (or place where they live/study/work) or they had faced at some point in past or they think/fear they would face in future.
Time given to write the problem: 10 minutes
Next step: Collected all the slips and put them in a box.
Then: Asked one of them to come to the front, pick one slip, read the problem written on it and give a good solution or give his/her point of view on the issue or share with the class how he/she overcame such a situation if it had ever happened in their life.
The learning outcome: The learners enjoyed the experience and also discovered the art of focussed writing and thinking and above all, the fear of facing an audience and interacting with them was absent. Moreover there was an authentic use of EC without getting into the features of English language. Here the achievement of the exercise was that there was a transformation in thoughts and attitude.
Source of Inspiration for this exercise: A You Tube Video of Sandeep Maheshwari

REASSURING

Today I was told on phone by an institute that I had to take a class at 2 pm. The call was annoying to me at that moment because it came while I was in the middle of a formal conversation. But now when I look at it from the point of view of the other person at the institute it was REASSURING.
