A Role Play : EC Practice with PROBLEMS and SOLUTIONS

No. of participants: 32
First step: Gave the participants small slips and asked them to write in one long sentence(max words:50) without losing the focus, a single problem which they are facing now in their life (or place where they live/study/work) or they had faced at some point in past or they think/fear they would face in future.
Time given to write the problem: 10 minutes
Next step: Collected all the slips and put them in a box.
Then: Asked one of them to come to the front, pick one slip, read the problem written on it and give a good solution or give his/her point of view on the issue or share with the class how he/she overcame such a situation if it had ever happened in their life.
The learning outcome: The learners enjoyed the experience and also discovered the art of focussed writing and thinking and above all, the fear of facing an audience and interacting with them was absent. Moreover there was an authentic use of EC without getting into the features of English language. Here the achievement of the exercise was that there was a transformation in thoughts and attitude.
Source of Inspiration for this exercise: A You Tube Video of Sandeep Maheshwari

THE VERBAL INTERACTION EXERCISE

In this exercise all the participants ask questions and interact but they should ask questions using only a particular verb given by the participant who comes forward for doing group interaction.
The questions can be both "Yes/No" or "Wh" types.
For eg. the participants in the audience can ask questions like:
Where do you work?
Where did you work yesterday?
Where will you work tomorrow?
Have you worked today?
Were you working in the morning?
(Here the verb to be used is "WORK")
Similarly other commonly used verbs can used to make questions in the next rounds of interaction)

Were you being used yesterday?
Are you being used now?
